The Counterproofs of Mary Cassattβ β π§π
β β
Mary Cassatt created her counterproofs by pressing a damp sheet of paper on the face of an existing pastel. The process transferred a mirror image of the original that looked more faded and softened—making her counterproofs individual and unique despite being mirrored replicas. Hence Mary Cassatt's signature being reversed. Her counterproofs were a revived method dating back to 18th century French artists. It wasn't until the early 2000's when Mary Cassatt's forgotten counterproof work was discovered from an unopened box inherited by a friend of Cassatt's dealer, Ambroise Vollard. All works shown are for sale. β β

It's National Nude Day & we've decided that clothing is optional today πβ
Nudity is an important facet of the artistic tradition and has been studied and demonstrated dating back to ancient times. The human body in its bare form is not only extremely expressive but, to put it simply: beautiful. It is familiar to all people regardless of background, sex, culture, or ethnic identity, thus allowing artists to use the human form to express universal truths. The naked human body is often exhibited with emphasis on emotions, composition, movement, and form.
β
Happy Nude Day!β
