Adelheid Dietrich (1827-1891)

Known for her highly refined and technically accomplished floral still lifes, Adelheid Dietrich was born in Wittenberg, Germany. Her paintings draw from seventeenth-century Dutch still-life tradition, and stand out for their vivid color and exquisite delicacy. Most of her known works display flowers placed in a highly realistic glass vase atop a ledge or shelf.

The German-born Dietrich studied with her father, the painter Eduard Dietrich (1803-1877), and little else is known about her life. She is believed to have painted only fifty or so works during her lifetime.
