| Philip Little shared a studio with
Frank Benson and had his first one-man exhibition at Rowlands Gallery, Boston, in 1907,
which helped to establish his national reputation. Copley Gallery in Boston represented
Little, and in 1909 he had shows at the Rhode Island School of Design, the Utica Library
and Art Museum, New York, and the Worcester Art Museum, Massachusetts. Forty-five of
Little's paintings were exhibited in 1910 and 1913 at the Saint Louis Art Museum. His
works were shown annually in Boston and in Rome, San Francisco, and Buenos Aires. Little loved Maine, where he painted throughout his life. From an Old Pasture, Maine recalls his friend and fellow Boston school member Frank Benson in its dense impasto and bold brushwork. |
