Private collection, until the present
From 1890 to 1925, Sargent worked on a series of mural projects at the Boston Public Library, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Widener Memorial Library at Harvard University. He produced hundreds of figure studies, many of which were never incorporated into the final program design. These drawings remained with the artist until his death and were later given by his family to the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard as well as to other public institutions. This drawing belongs to studies done for the Museum of Fine Arts.
